HOW ICELAND DRIED UP THE NILE

November 2006: The explosion of the icelandic vulcano Laki in 1783 had big effects even in Egypt. About 100 million tons of sulphur dioxide and other chemicals were thrown into the atmosphere. Together with water steam they form very little particles, the so called aerosols, which reflect the sunlight. This had big effects on the climate in southern regions: less rain fell and the Nile had his lowest water level.
