March 2007: Since 1986 the british newspaper The Economist is calculating the so-called Big Mac Index in order to compare the purchase power in different countries. The newest edition shows that the cheapest Big Mac can be bought in China (1 Euro 7 cent) and the most expensive in Iceland (5 Euro 66 cent). This is an indicator for the high living standard in Iceland (and may be also a hint for tourists to better spend their money for fresh icelandic fish or marvellous lamb dishes.)
