May 2007: Norwegian aircrafts will carry out military manoeuvres over Iceland and also use the military airport in Keflavik, which has been abandoned by US troops last year.Furthermore there will be a cooperation on behalf of the sea surveillance.By this the Republic of Iceland, which does not have own troops at all, gets at least a symbolic substitute. But, as is stressed by the norwegian government, NATO and the USA are still responsible for the safety of Iceland.
