August 2007: Accompanied by Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen the German Chancellor Angela Merkel will visit the arctic island from 16. to 17. August to get first hand information about global warming. By boat and helicopter they will take a look at Jakobshavn Isfjord, who is filled up with giant icebergs (approximately 40 square kilometers a year) which move into the sea.
