December 2007: Up to 1800 titles have been published each year on the Icelandic book market where 40 publishing houses are caring for the reading demands of the 300000 Icelanders. One new publication per 167 inhabitants is definitely a world record! Young authors are inspired by the fact that their island has already produced a Nobel Prize winner for literature, Halldor Laxness. Especially crime novels from Iceland have been international successes in recent years.
