February 2008: The legendary chess champion Bobby Fischer died in Iceland on 18. January because of kidney trouble.He was buried in the small town Laugardaela 50 km east of Reykjavik.Fischer became famous when he 1972 won the world chess championship against the soviet chess master Boris Spasski. The match took place in Reykjavik. Fischer became citizen of Iceland in 2005.
