July 2008: Iceland is a candidate for one of the non-permanent seats in the Security Council for the term 2009-2010. Iceland is willing and ready to take on an active role for international peace and security by serving on the Security Council.
In the UN Security Council, Iceland will work on the basis of protection of civilians in conflicts,
women's participation in post-conflict peace processes, climate change,non-proliferation and disarmament.
